Peak Power Sports Camp Safeguarding Policy for Children

1. Introduction

Peak Power Sports Camp is committed to creating a safe and secure environment for all children participating in our out-of-school sports camps in Whaley Bridge, High Peak, Derbyshire. This safeguarding policy outlines our commitment to protecting children from harm, abuse, and neglect. We adhere to all relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, and any subsequent updates.


2. Safeguarding Principles

- We believe that every child has the right to be protected from harm, abuse, or neglect.

- We recognise the importance of promoting the welfare of children and young people in our care.

- We understand that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility within our organisation, including staff, volunteers, parents, and participants.


3. Designated Safeguarding Officer

- Peak Power Sports Camp has appointed a Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) who is responsible for overseeing all safeguarding matters.

- The DSO ensures that all staff and volunteers receive appropriate training on safeguarding policies and procedures.

- The DSO serves as the primary point of contact for any safeguarding concerns or disclosures and works closely with relevant authorities and agencies as necessary.


4. Recruitment and Training

- All staff and volunteers undergo thorough background checks, including enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, before being allowed to work with children.

- Staff and volunteers receive comprehensive safeguarding training, including recognising signs of abuse, reporting procedures, and understanding their responsibilities in safeguarding children.

- Regular refresher training is provided to ensure that staff and volunteers remain up to datewith safeguarding policies and procedures.


5. Code of Conduct

- All staff and volunteers are required to adhere to a strict code of conduct when working with children.

- This includes treating all children with respect, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and refraining from behaviour that could be construed as abusive or inappropriate.

- Staff and volunteers are prohibited from being alone with a child in a private setting unless absolutely necessary, and even then, another adult must be informed of the situation.


6. Risk Assessment and Supervision

- We conduct regular risk assessments of our premises and activities to identify and mitigate potential risks to children's safety.

- Adequate supervision is provided at all times during sports camp activities to ensure the well-being of all participants.

- Staff-to-child ratios are maintained in accordance with regulatory guidelines to ensure proper supervision and support.


7. Reporting Procedures

- Any safeguarding concerns or disclosures made by children will be taken seriously and handled sensitively.

- Staff and volunteers are required to report any concerns or suspicions of abuse or neglect to the Designated Safeguarding Officer immediately.

- Reports will be documented, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with our safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation.


8. Partnership with Parents and Carers

- We value the input of parents and carers in safeguarding children and encourage open communication.

- Parents and carers are provided with information about our safeguarding policies and procedures and are encouraged to raise any concerns they may have.

- We work collaboratively with parents and carers to ensure the safety and well-being of all children attending our sports camps.


9. Confidentiality and Data Protection

- Information regarding safeguarding concerns or disclosures will be handled confidentially and shared only with those who need to know on a need-to-know basis.

- We comply with all relevant data protection legislation when handling personal information and ensure that information is stored securely and disposed of appropriately when no longer needed.


10. Review and Monitoring

- This safeguarding policy is reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, best practices, or organizational procedures.

- We monitor the implementation of this policy regularly to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
